INSIGHTS ON WINDSOR CASTLE*

The Irish Guard in Windsor

Going inside Windsor Castle, favourite residence of the Queen, is a venture on its own. The recommended time for this tour is of at least two hours in order to have a successful visit.

The extensive grounds contain many sights worth seeing and which your guide at Windsor Tours will take your round٭:

  • St George's Chapel, home of the Order of the Garter, burial site for ten monarchs and their relatives and setting for many royal weddings;

  • Queen Mary's Dolls House - the biggest and most fascinating dolls house there is (everything inside it works, down to electricity, taps and clocks)

Windsor Castle - St George's Chapel
  • the Drawings Gallery which houses changing exhibitions from the Royal Library at the Castle,

  • the State Apartments.

For certain months of the year, when the flow of visitors is reduced, the Semi State Rooms are also open. They display a marvellous interior design with furniture, tapestries, porcelain and paintings from the Royal Collection, including masterpieces by Holbein, Van Dyck and Rubens.

In the precincts of the Castle we can also see the beautifully landscaped Moat Garden, the Round Tower - housing the Royal Archives, and catch glimpses of the views across Eton and its College playing fields.
