WINDSOR TALES*

"The tour was very informative and included all of the major sites within the town, including the changing of the guard at the Castle (twice!).  The comments I have received back from our members have been very complimentary.  The tour was very much enjoyed by all and served as a wonderful introduction to Windsor during our short stay.  I would also add that our guide Hugh Burn, had great presence, was very knowledgeable on the history of the town and the buildings, and - most importantly - was an extremely clear speaker whose voice carried well above the noise and bustle of the town." (Martin - Stockport, Tameside and Macclesfield Society of Architects)

A typical tour of Windsor will last for approximately 1 hour and take you round the cobbled streets of Windsor, just under the walls of the Castle, for a look at:

  • Nell Gwynn's House (mistress to Charles II)

  • the Guildhall, built by Sir Christopher Wren, where some famous couples have recently said 'I Do'

Windsor - The plaque on Queen Charlotte Street
    Windsor - the Guildhall
  • The Crooked House teashop

  • Queen Charlotte Street - recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the shortest street in England

  • The Old King's Head Pub

  • the Long Walk

  • the Curfew Tower

  • Windsor Royal Station

A two hours town tour, or slightly longer, reveals so much more of the beauty of Windsor as the route is adjusted so we can see more of the Victorian town as well as hear more of its stories. This extended heritage tour of Windsor also takes us to:

  • Bachelors Acre - an ancient piece of land that belonged to the Bachelors of Windsor, which they left to the people of the town

  • The Theatre Royal

  • Sir Christopher Wren's House

  • Eton Bridge

View of Windsor Castle from the Long Walk
